Hey there!

Recently came across a NITRO 5 AN515-42 and was interested in seeing if I could get it up and running properly

Here are the problems:

Previous owner told me that the keyboard used to light up but does not currently.

Also, the laptop does not respond to being closed

Here's what I've figured out:

KEYBOARD

I asked a friend who said that the laptop might not even have had a backlit keyboard from the beginning as the NitroSense makes no reference to keyboard settings unlike other screenshots I've seen of the program

*Note the lack of Keyboard settings in the Advanced Settings cog

The KEYBOARD TIMEOUT is currently DISABLED in the BIOS. Changing this setting has changed nothing.

The FN +F9 has no effect.

LID:

Very simply. The laptop does not respond to the lid being closed. I was told this could just be a faulty sensor as all the settings in W10 are configured correctly. The lid just doesn't respond to being closed.

SPECS:

If anyone can offer any advice that would be great!

I'm currently looking at the cost to get a new keyboard, but I want to make sure that's the last option.

The Keyboard connector and Hall magnetic lid position sensor probably need to be re-seated or have come loose. The RAM and HDD doors need to be removed and 15 screws and bottom cover pried off to access the connectors

    Hey @JackE

    You were a huge help!

I took the laptop apart and whoever was in here before really should not have been.

Of all the screws that SHOULD have been on the bottom there were only 6. All of screws that held the SSD in place were missing as well

I reseated the JKB2 with no change to the keyboard lights.

However, I found that JHS1 was FLOATING freely in the case as well as the ribbon next to PJP201 which doesn't have a designation on the guide you provided.

Based on other small electronics I've been inside, I'm sure there's supposed to be a small clamp that holds these ribbons in place.

They're probably in the same place as all the missing screws...

Attached are pictures of the ribbon receptacles of note.

Are these receptacles something that can be replaced or can I just replace the clamp that holds them down?

Same with the screws. Where can I find screws that would be compatible?

Thanks for all your help with this

The clamps are usually wedges the hold the FFC-mainboard contacts together. They easily break off and are lost. This is one of the problems that Scotch Tape was invented for.

Google search the keywords 'laptop screw kit' for vendors who ship kits to your location with hundreds of different size screws that are used in just about every consumer laptop made. Less than about $0 usd
