AFAIK, it will work but you must use an LGA1200 to LGA1700 socket adapter due to different pin count. Furthermore, it won't reach it's full performance potential unless a newer B660 mainboard is used. Sorry, I don't think it's a practical upgrade.

LGA1200 to LGA1700 socket adapter? As far as I know, there's no such thing. Maybe the person before me was referring to a mounting kit that allows some LGA1200 coolers to be used with LGA1700 motherboards.

OP, your motherboard has LGA1200 socket and i5-12400 is meant for LGA1700. In theory, you should be able to use Intel's 10th or 11th gen processors on your board because they use the same LGA1200 socket. But since the motherboard BIOS is so limited, 10th gen CPUs might not work at all. Besides, going back a generation would be kinda funny, don't you agree?

You should be able to use another 11th gen CPU (for example i5-11500x/600x or i7-11700x, x=null or f) but there is no guarantee that it will work. The CPU will physically fit, though. Your best bet would be to find which CPUs other PO3-630s came out from the factory.

Personally I wouldn't try to upgrade CPU on this system. There is no guarantee that it will work and the performance gains would not be considerable to the costs.

Try to search the forum or Internet if someone has actually upgraded their CPU.

The only thing I've ever heard of in the way of a LGA1200 to LGA1700 socket adapter is an adapter to allow you to use LGA1200 coolers on LGA1700 sockets. There is nothing that I'm aware of that let's you put a 12th gen CPU into an 11th gen socket.

@GotBanned & @billsey are correct. Sorry, pin socket adapter not available. You need the newer B660 mainboard. So it's doubly impractical.
