What should I do when Acer DustDefender does nothing My Acer Aspire VN7?

My Acer Aspire VN7 came with DustDefender installed, I haven't touched the function in years because it said it worked automatically. Now one of the fans keeps making a lot of noise, so I thought I'd at least check the DustDefender before having the fan changed, but clicking on the option to manually "clean now" just does nothing, there's not even a small interruption, the animation in the app doesn't change either, and if I do it over Quick Access instead, there's a small loading animation for half a second before it disappears, again doing nothing. What should I do?

Yes, I am well aware what it is supposed to be doing. My problem is that it's not actually doing anything.
