What do you mean by underneath? That should only wet the laptop rubber feet, not the electronics inside. Are you sure the water wasn't spilled on top or on the keyboard a got inside? Was the laptop turned on when water got inside?

Possibly the water got in through the power button key when spilt and the laptop was on when it happened.

Not good. Was it plain tap water?

Buy a small tub of calcium chloride dehumidifier desiccant pellets in the detergent section of your local supermarket or hardware store. Then place the laptop in a heavy duty garbage bag. Open the tub of calcium chloride pellets and carefully place it inside the bag so it can't spill or tip over any where near the laptop. Then close the bag with a twist tie. Let it set closed for at least 24 hours. The calcium chloride pellets should absorb any residual moisture left behind on the electronic components, The pellets may get soupy wet. They are very corrosive in this wet state. So don't let them touch the laptop or anything when you open the bag back up.

It will remove any residual moisture or humidity --- meaning water ---- from inside the laptop electronics that may be preventing it from staying on. This is what a dehumidifier does. Removes moisture from the air so it is very dry inside the bag. Dry air inside the bag will help dry out the inside of the laptop.

Good luck. It should work if the water had low mineral content.
