This is just my experience and my opinion with Toshiba drives, so you can take it as you may? All SATA 2.5" drives are compatible with your Nitro 5, I'm using a simple 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green HDD as an external drive with my new Nitro 5 now and it works great and perfect, this is because I can't connect this drive as a 2nd drive into my Nitro 5 internally as the SATA connection and mobo plug is virtually impossible to connect to in my new Nitro 5 laptop and whenever I connect the SATA plug to the laptop mobo SATA plug (as its so flimsy, small and awkward) it just refuses to boot and I've tried everything to connect this drive with no success so I'm using this drive as an external drive.

Anyway, I also used a 2TB Toshiba external mechanical HDD and what I noticed right from the start is that the drive was prone to not connecting properly and after 6 months it died and I lost my valuable data as the drives reading head was faulty and Toshiba has no guarantee of data recovery they only (after searching for ages about a failed drive) they only replace the drive without data recovery provisions, I suggest that you get a good external 2.5" SSD or a mechanical drive from a reputable manufacturer of drives like Samsung, WD or Seagate as their quality is exceptional and they have good warranty on their drives. Btw, I've used an internal 2.5" Samsung 850 EVO for 5 years daily without any problems and I'm still using it in an old laptop and it works 100% and have had no problems with it. IMO I would keep right off any Toshiba external mechanical HDD as its risky as are most of the generic branded HDD that you will use a backup drives especially, if you want to store valuable data and not lose it and be in for great costs to recover your data!
