Swift 5 keyboard is partly working some key is not working may I know the solution for this problem?

Hi,

When I turn on my laptop, some key is not working. Normally tab and W.

I think some function is locked.

I tried all solution in the community. Only solution is Fn+F8 releases the lock.

The problem is whenever I turn on the laptop and while using the work, suddenly it is locked.

I look forward to see ultimate solution for this problem.

Please let me know if someone has it.

Tap F2 on startup to enter BIOS menu. In BIOS MAIN tab, change function key behavior option from media key to function key. Press F10 to save setting and exit BIOS menu.

Jack, I tried it but it does not fix it. Only difference is I don't need type Fn Key.

Did Windows Update install a BIOS update for you? If so it might have some settings wrong for your model. Go into the BIOS, reset it to factory defaults (F9) and the save and exit (F10). Likely the BIOS is defaulting to NumLk on, even though you don't have a numeric keypad.

I have the same problem too with my 2.5 y.o. Swift 5. Problem started just past the 2 year mark. 'A', 'X', 'Alt' keys do not work on the start. Thought it might be a contact problem - got key press to register if I had my finger down hard on the gap between 'C' and 'F'. That worked, but a real inconvenience as you can imagine.

Saw a post for similar issue on Swift 3. Attempted to apply solution and realised that Swift 3 keyboard connector is different with that of Swift 5. So, no luck there.

Am out of ideas now - might have to concede and send it for inspection by service center. 🙄

A, X and left Alt are likely all on the same line of the matrix, so it's possible the issue lies in a contaminant between the membrane layers. There is no good fix for that, short of a keyboard replacement, since they are so difficult to disassemble. If you can give us the full model number and which language your system is setup for, we can look up the part number for the keyboard. The full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number and it should look something like SF5xx-xxx-xxxx.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have had some time on my hands due to year end / new year holidays, and made another attempt to resolve. The keys are working again. Will see how long the workaround lasts, and update here. 🙂

What is your full Swift 5 model number? For example, SF514-54?

Here's an update. The trick I attempted didn't give consistent results. Still had incidents of keystrokes not registering. So far, it would appear that tilting the entire laptop left and right before setting it down again would re-activate the offending keys. 😕 I managed to type out the previous sentences on the keyboard, but with instances of having to backspace and retype whenever keystrokes didn't register. (My model is SF514-54T)

My A, X, and alt key's on my Swift 5 have been non-functoning for the last 2 years.

I've been using a wireless keyboard because of this.

I just tried pressing hard between the C & F key as suggested and it has fixed my problem!

I just created an account to say Thank-you.

Now I just need a new battery
