GPU Turning Off and Back On During Games

Hello,

During gaming my GPU keeps turning off periodically, and the FPS tank, accordingly. 

- it doesn't seem to be a temp issue; it's reaching about 80-84 degrees, but it holds it for quite some time before it shuts off.

- I have the Windows setting to use the discrete graphics all the time.

- Geforce Control Panel is set to use discrete in both Physx and for programs/universal setting

- Power setting is max performance.

- Drivers are up to date.

I've attached a pic showing the cycle while running a game.  The dips in temp match when the GPU turns off and the FPS tank.  Then the temps rise when it comes back on.

Any solution people are aware of?

Try windows + x 
go the device manager 
click on display 
You can find the display adapter 
Sometimes you find multiple adapters.    Right click on it - click on uninstall  ( Please dont click on delete software check box if you find any)  
You can uninstall both the drivers
Restart the computer.   It will automatically install the drivers 

If it is still not working then try to download and install the drivers.
