upgrading my Aspire a315-21 series. I only need a motherboard that can fits

Hi Folks,

I bought the Aspire a315-21 series laptop to my daughter before 3 years. I replaced the HDD to SSD and upgraded the RAM to 12 GB but it still crawling. I know that it has a soldered CPU and there is no way to upgrade the processor only. So my question is: is there a way to replace the whole motherboard with another upgraded one that accepts I5 & I7 core removable processers and at the same time can be installed/replacing the old one. i.e. the same shape and size. I have extra unused Intel i5 core processor with extra RAMs. I only need a motherboard that can fits the Aspire a315-21.

"ohajibrahim" NO these laptops only use a soldered on AMD CPU’s of either the Core A9-9420 or Core A6-9220 or Core A4-9120 and the AMD R17M-M1-30 or the AMD R17M-M1-70 VGA Chip.

What I would suggest is that you upgrade the only upgradable 1x RAM slot to a 1x stick of 16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM (also for best and more modern guide to max RAM specs for this laptop run the Crucial System Scan) so that you have the max 20GB RAM that this laptop can handle (as this laptop has 4 GB of on-board DDR4 or DDR3L system memory) so that you get the best performance from this laptop.

Also make sure that you have installed the latest AMD graphics driver, keep windows 100% up to date and also make sure that all unwanted system files are deleted at:

This PC > boot drive > right click properties > Disk Cleanup > Clean up system files

And make sure that you delete the many GB's that you might have there of unnecessary files as that slows your laptop up considerably. Also see this link to enable the TRIM command within windows for the SSD to work at its peak performance. All these things will make your laptop work to its most efficient best performance.

Sorry no. Most newer consumer laptops, tablet hybrids & all-in-ones use solder-only CPU & GPU mobile versions due to weight, space and thermal management constraints. Full size desktops are about the only consumer products that still have removable processors.

It shouldn't be crawling with AMD 9000 series CPU. Please post a screenshot of Task Manager STARTUP tab if possible.

Disable OneDrive unless you or your daughter have a reason to have it active all the time. Then there is a unlabelled 'program' that should also be disabled if it's function is also unknown.

Then open Control Panel programs. Do you see any non-Microsoft 3rd party antivirus software installed? For example, n or ton, mc a fee, ma lware by tes. etc. If yes, uninstall it since most users only need Microsoft Defender and Malicious Software Removal Tool (mrt.exe) which are updated regularly.

Also if Chrome or Edge browsers are being used, try FireFox instead since it usually is much faster and doesn't consume as many resources unnecessarily.

I have bought and installed 16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM but unfortunately the computer didn't work. It didn't even boot to setup menu. I reused the 8 GB and it back working. Does this series Aspire 3 315 21 accepts 16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM? Any suggestions and thanks

Sorry, no. It only accepts one 8GB DDR4 sodimm 2400MHz or faster as you have discovered.
