X34 bmiphz showing odd discoloring and "flashing" display

I have an "old" Predator X34 that was purchased around 2016 - it's the UM.CX1AA.A01 model. It's been a work-house and the image is still sharp, but this year I noticed the monitor started to randomly flash brightly or just change brighness and jump back very fast. Worse, on a single color background and in some games, some very clear zig/zag lines are visible, and they go in and out of visibility constantly. The screen is slightly warmer (close to hot) where the lines are - and I see more and more of them over the last few months.  Depending on what I am doing, I may not even notice them - but when I do they're highly annoying.

Since this unit is way out of warranty, I am trying to see what options I have. It's definitely not dirt on the screen - and the heat I feel indicates (to me) it's just a matter of time before there's a real burn in or loss of display. But before I take a bite of the sour apple and look for a replacement, I wanted to see if someone had suggestions if there's a fix to this.

Double check the cabling, most often you see things like that if the cable is a little loose at one end or the other or if the wires internal to the cable are starting to break.
