No response from the taskbar notifications when I plug in headphones.
Any advice?

Headphones sometimes aren't detected in a headset jack.  Right click speak icon in tray. Click sound settings. Click 'sound control panel' in right pane. Do you see both internal speakers and headphones listed?

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

The laptop used to open a pop up when i plugged in headphones, asking me what I was plugging in (speakers, headphones, microphone etc) but now nothing! It's like the port doesn't 'see' i have plugged them in anymore.

I don't have a 'sound control panel' on the right in settings, I have 'output', 'input' and 'advanced'. On all expandable menus it only displays Speakers.

In the 'more sound settings' menu i have this

    Headphones 'not plugged in'
    :(

    Is it a hardware problem?

Yes, with the headphones. Your laptop audio card and internal speakers seem fine.
