When I call my friends on discord, they say they just hear fan noises. Can anyone help?

Right click speaker icon in tray. Click open sound settings. Click input dropdown and choose your microphone input device if you're using a headset.

Then make sure it's selected. Then in the upper right pane click on 'sound control panel'. Then click on recording tab. Make the built-in array is still selected. Right click its properties. Then click the levels tab. Slide the array volume level all the way to 100%

Since they can hear the fan  noises that means your microphone is working. Right click the speaker icon in the tray. Click troubleshooting sound problems. Answer questions and follow directions.
