Link Power Management in Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management AN515-54

For starter I don't use Intel Optane for my AN515-54 but I installed the drivers anyway because the Optane drivers were included in the Acer product drivers page when I reinstalled Windows on new SSD. So there's this option called "Link Power Management" in the Intel Optane software (look picture below). The option is enabled by default but I feel like it's gonna be a problem if it's turned on. Something about the HDD keeps turning on and off and it would shorten its lifespan. And isn't there also similar options in Windows Power Options already? Should I disable it? Or just uninstall the Optane driver altogether?

    Hi,
I would disable it because it saves some battery time if you have the OS in HDD, as you are using a SSD it's irrelevant, so I would disable it.

I have both SSD and HDD inside

If you have the OS in your SSD, you will be fine disabling LPM.

I do, do you think it's safe to disable this? Because the default is on. Also is 'Link Power Management' in that program the same as "Link State Power Management" in power options?

    Hi,
These two are different, Windows Link State Power Management is in Power options, the one you are asking about is by Intel Optane, I don't use Intel Optane and I have switched off Power options Link Power State management as well because I use my laptop as a desktop(always connected with the AC adapter), so if you use the laptop only on battery mode either of the LPM will help save some battery life, if you turn it off you may have slightly lesser battery usage time.

Are you sure it's not gonna decrease the life of my SSD/HDD by turning it off? xD The default is on btw

Yes, in my opinion it's not going to decrease the life of your SSD/HDD but if you want a second opinion please leave the thread open so that someone else can chime in  :)

I made a thread on Intel forums and a 'Super User Retired Employee' replied https://community.intel.com/t5/Rapid-Storage-Technology/Link-Power-Management-in-Intel-Optane-Memory-and-Storage/m-p/1380198/highlight/true#M10989 but he didn't know our Nitro laptops come with Intel Optane drivers by default even though there's no Optane inside
