The laptop has one PCIe 3.0 M.2 slot, and the stock 128 GB SSD is that PCIe 3.0 NVMe type, probably a Kingston brand.

I almost bought this laptop a couple years ago. Don't forget this is an entry level laptop, the motherboard will only support PCIe 3.0 type bus. Anyway, it should be fast enough for daily usages other than heavy gaming and heavy video editing.
Currently, only those high end laptops will have PCIe 4.0 bus and M.2 slots. Using a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is possible, but a waste of money.

If you feel the 128 GB NVMe SSD capacity is not enough, you may want to replace it with a high end performance and higher capacity gen 3 drive.

Hi there, I have Acer Aspire 5 15.6" A515-43-R19L bought on Amazon with standard 4gb/128gb. I have purchased 16gb memory and added to it, having now 20gb RAM. Also, I have removed the 128gb SSD and replaced it with 1Tb SSD from Amazon (total for both maybe $100 or less). It works as a charm, it's quick, holding battery well, great display and now it's 20gb/1Tb laptop with light up keyboard, 1080p antiglare display for $400. It's easy to open and switch parts on your own, watch one or two YouTube videos and use credit card to pull the chassis not a screwdriver so you avoid leaving dents on plastic. Good luck!

P.S. I have dropped it few times now, it's running like a tank, working 4 years strong. Great laptop from Acer. I had Samsung Galaxy Book Pro before super slim, one day in a backpack and it deformed. HP Spectre was great, the best buy is Microsoft Surface Book 2 (a $3000 dollar laptop you can buy now for $500 and it works 8 years like new) quality can't be matched with Acer of course but hey get two like me. Microsoft Book 2 for home and Acer Aspire 5 15.6" A515-43-R19L for school/backpack.
