How to get latest BIOS and Chipset drivers from product page if there is a bunch listed?

I am having random problems with my external SSD randomly getting "I/O device error" when in use, I was told that upgrading BIOS and USB chipset would help (I already checked ports and cables), however for BIOS it lists a bunch:  https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/support-product/7625?b=1
Do I just install the latest one from the top called "Fixed Intel SA00307 ME security vulnerability."? For reference I currently have R01-C3 2019/09/10 for BIOS
Also which one do I grab to update USB Chipset drivers?

Any help would be much appreciated!

otomon the external SSD should not be doing that or getting the “I/O device error” which is an “Input/Output Device Error. The error occurs when the operating system fails to connect to the hardware device” as this in 99.99% of cases is your SSD drive which can’t be fixed and has to be replaced, try to connect this external SSD to another computer and see if you get the same error? Or you can check the cable (yes I know that you have) but the one that you are using could be faulty, check the actual USB port if its not damaged, as anything minor inside the USB port can have great effects on connection. Also USB drivers very rarely go wrong and any guides in fixing USB drivers are useless and don’t work as USB’s should work.

BIOS updates do not fix anything than what the BIOS titles state that they fix specifically. In the Nitro N50-600 the BIOS that you have the Version: R01-C3 has “Upgrade Microcode DT_P_189”, try to upgrade to the last Version: R01-D1 “Fixed Intel SA00307 ME security vulnerability” as that includes all the other BIOS titled upgrades including a performance BIOS upgrade called “Enhance system performance” which could help? But, be very careful and don’t attempt to upgrade the BIOS if you don’t know what you are doing or never have done a BIOS update especially with a desktop which is different to a laptop ,exe type BIOS update within Windows, because Acer warns consumers that “Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution” and you could brick your desktop if you do it incorrectly!

Also install the Intel Driver & Support Assistant and run a scan to see if all your Intel drivers are up to date as Acer does not have all the latest drivers on their page for the N50-600 as that could also revive (if it’s the USB driver?) the USB port to work with your external SSD drive? Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thanks for reply! As I stated, I already tried every cable I have and every single USB port (made sure they were clean inside), Since my post, I realized the event log for "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Compatible Device" (which im guessing is the driver the external SSD uses) show the message "Device not migrated" followed by the error "Device Deleted" and from what I read online, when people get this error their drives wont be accessible at all, but as I can literally play for hours until the I/O device error. I also tried plugging in a different and newer external SSD and noticed it also gave me the "Device could not be migrated" error on event log.

Thanks for the tip for BIOS, I did upgrade it last night but no difference....

I installed the Intel Driver & Support Assistant as you adviced but it only found some outdated wifi and bluetooth drivers, it seems indeed the issue could be USB driver related but no idea what to do now (already tried sfc/ scannow and unistalling/reinstalling drivers).  I had a feeling the drivers on the Acer page were outdated, where else can I find the newer correct ones if Windows Update aint grabbing em?

Here go to MS as they have this about USB “Troubleshoot common USB problems” so see all the guides and if any will fix your problem.
