BSOD nvlddmkm.sys PAGE FAULT - AN517-41

Hi,

yesterday all of a sudden without coincidentally updating a driver, my AN517-41 showed a blue screen upon opening the lid. Reason: PAGE FAULT error of nvlddmkm.sys It could not be recovered by any of the windows boot loaders repair mechanisms. I could not find nlvddmkm.sys on the machine, neither boot in save mode or anything. Only opening commendline mode worked. I decided to reinstall Windows 11 and all went fine to the point where I wanted to install the graphics driver. The BSOD appeared while installing the Acer nVidia driver, and also when installing the latest from the nVidia page. Funnily, it always recovered in that case because defaulting back to the AMD graphics(?) or some standard mode.

Has anyone out there observed this behavior. I suspect a hardware failure in RAM or graphics card. Any other suggestions?

Was Win10 factory installed originally?

Not sure. I bought it in Aug 21 and I guess it always had Win11.

You might have an in-betweener mainboard with nvidia GPUs that were also used in Win10 but didn't have all the Win11 OEM driver updates yet when it shipped. Go to this link , download and install the apprpriate nvidia RTX or GTX Win11 updates.

I already tried to install the VGA Driver (RTX3060 / RTX3070 / RTX3080) from the support page. The installation stops with the named BSOD.

Open Device Manager. If no red or yellow warnings, click display adapters folder. What driver is listed for the nvidia GPU? You want ACER nvidia driver, not the generic nvidia driver. Screenshots would be helpful.

There appear to be two devices: When I reach the desktop then I assume I am running on generic unaccelerated graphics (does a Ryzen have integrated graphics?) and there is a second with a yellow sign label like "Generic graphics". I assume this is the nVidia which is inactive until I try to install the driver. To answer your question: there is no driver listed for the nVidia as I cannot install any driver.
