RAM upgrade issue with Acer 5720-4662

Having determined, through Crucial System Selector Scan, that my old Acer 5720-4662, which was running 1GB of RAM, was capable of upgrading to 4GB I purchased a couple of 2GB sticks to install. After installing, and attempting to boot, I got the blue screen of death

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA...etc, etc."

I removed one stick of RAM and rebooted and all was well. System properties recognized 2GB. I swapped over to the other stick and rebooted and all was well. System properties recognized 2GB. So, obviously nothing wrong with the RAM sticks. I then tried one of the two new 2GB sticks along with one of the old 512MB sticks; the 2GB on the bottom and the 512MB on top. Result: blue screen of death. I then tried them the other way around; 512MB on bottom, 2GB on top. Result; successfully booted up.

So, if the machine is capable of 4GB why am I getting the blue screen with 4GB installed?

Is there something in BIOS that needs to be changed/adjusted/reset?

Or is this machine not capable of 4GB and I'll just have to live with 2.5GB?

That is the model number, need the part number (starts with an "N")

It says, on back, that the model number is ICL50. I'm also, only just now, seeing that the back label calls it a 5720Z and, according to Crucial that one is only upgradeable to 2GB. If that is, indeed, the case then I guess I'm lucky to have got it up to 2.5GB?
