Aspire A515-45; file transfer to Synology NAS not possible

Hi,

I have a new Aspire A515-45 with Windows 11

I have a Synology D118 NAS

The NAS worked- and still works great with another Lenovo Windows 10 Laptop and a desktop.

The Acer laptop with Windows 11 refuses to transfer files to my NAS network drive. It ends up after
a minute or so with the error 'remove the write protection on the network drive'. I have to reboot
the Synology to make it accessible from my Acer laptop again.

I have tried:
- Extensive contact with Synology, without solution.

- Extensive contact with Microsoft, without solution.

- Reinstalled Windows 11 on my Acer, no solution.

- Installed all available updates to my Acer laptop

- I have than installed Windows 10 on my Acer laptop and .... the same problem occurred; no file transfer
to my network drive possible.

I'm at the end of my options and can only conclude that the problem is the Aspire A515-45.

Can someone suggest a solution to this problem?

What happens when you boot the ACER before the NAS? What happens when you boot the NAS before the ACER?

I have tested it now from all angles. Starting fresh - trying to copy a 20Mb file to the NAS and then transfer is stopped after a minute. The error shows first "unable to copy, remove the write protection" and a second error pops-up "An unexpected network failure occurred".

When I restart the NAS, I can once again read the NAS but can still not copy files to it.

When I restart my Acer laptop I can read the NAS but also can not transfer files to it.

Booting all kinds of sequences does not solve the issue sadly enough.

Open Control Panel. Click Programs. Click turn features on and off. Scroll down to SMB1 sharing support folder. Checkmark smb1's client and server subfolders. Uncheckmark smb1 auto removal. Reboot.

Call me a nerd but open what control Panel where? Windows? Synology?

In neither of them I see an option as 'Programs'.

As far as I know SMB1 is not advised for it's hackers vulnerability?

Some network devices, even newer, simply don't work consistently or reliably without enabling the old NT client & server protocols. Just the way it is. There are worse vulnerabilities to worry about in small home network or workgroup setups You can easily reverse after testing if it bothers you.

I also activated smb1 on the NAS and tried if that made a difference. Sadly that also made no difference and the issue remains.

The fact that this issue only occurs on my Acer laptop on Windows 11 AND on Windows 10.

That with Windows 10 on my Lenovo laptop and on my desktop, this issue does not occur, means that the solution should not be found in Windows or on my Synology nas, but in the Acer laptop.

Synology as well as Microsoft could not point to a solution. The only solution I can see as an amateur, is in the bios. Though I must have a very strong case pointing to a solution before I risk that undertaking.

Frankly, I am starting to regret me Acer purchase.

Try this. Open FileExplore. Click on C : \ in left pane. Search 'explore.exe' in right pane. Right click on the first explore.exe found. Click run as adminstrator. Try to transfer files. If still fails, right click properties on the NAS to see if elevated FileExplore has option to disable read/write protection.

Just saw this comment. So that you don't wander too far down this rabbitt hole, just want to say that If you can read/write to other storage shares of other PCs on the network, then it is likely not the BIOS firmware or hardware. It is more likely a network security setting --- of which there are many in Win10/11 that react differently to different hardware configs ---- that is different on this ACER than on the other network PCs. I really don't know much about Synologies tech or forum support, but I do know that the Microsoft forums can be next to useless esp on networking issues.
