I just had a problem to turn on the laptop. It seems to be solved but I'd like to understand what caused the problem and if I should do something now to prevent this issue.

Possible cause: I use an USB hub where I also plug in few external HDDs. Last time I plugged off all the powers and then shut down the Windows. The HDD made beep noise as it did not got the power and windows did not want to shutdown. After I turned on the power, it could shut down normally.

Next time, the laptop did not want to turn on: when pressing power button for short or about up till 5 sec nothing happened. I plugged in the power cable and the yellow light for charging was on. Eventually, after pressing the power button for about 30 sec, the lights for power button + shift (or caps lock, I'm not sure) turned on for short. Afterwards, after shortly pressing the power button I could normally boot into windows (btw I use dual boot with Ubuntu). Note that battery was around 60 % so it was not issue with it.

I understand you say "I just had a problem to turn on the laptop. It seems to be solved but I'd like to understand what caused the problem and if I should do something now to prevent this issue"

If you face the same issue again, kindly follow the steps given below

Please disconnect all the external peripherals from the laptop.    Unplug all the cables including the power cable from the laptop.   Wait for few mins and then plug all the cables back.   It should start to work.

Doing the power drain and bios defaults will really help.  Kindly follow the steps given below:
Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices or any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down.  On the bottom of the laptop, you can find a  pin hole. It is a tiny hole. You can a find a battery symbol indicator next to the hole. It is like a + and – sign symbol as though somebody is trying to shift the battery out. Insert the pin on to the hole for 30 seconds. Remove the pin. Flip the laptop. Connect the charger cable, turn on the computer.  Only on laptops where the battery is inbuilt you can find the battery reset hole on the back of laptop.
If you don’t find a pin hole on the back of laptop then you might be using removable battery. There is no need to unscrew anything to remove the battery.  Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices and any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down.  On the bottom of the laptop, please look at the top or bottom depending on the way you look at it. You can find a long door. It is a battery removable door.  Just below that you can find a latch.  If you move the latch you can remove the battery door. Once the battery is removed, flip the laptop. Open the top cover, press and hold the power button for 1 minute. Connect the battery back on the back of computer. Connect the charger cable back and then turn on the computer.  If you don’t see a reset pin hole on the back of laptop or if you are not able to remove the battery (if it is inbuilt) then please unplug all the cables and devices out of laptop.   Hold the power button for 1 minute.  After releasing the button you should wait a while before plugging in power. Just because the button has been pressed doesn’t bleed off all the residual electricity on the motherboard. Wait 15-30 minutes before plugging in power. Then once power is connected wait for a full battery indication before turning the system on. That allows the battery to fully reset it’s internal statistics.
Connect all the cables back and restart the computer.

While turning on the computer, tap f2. It will go to bios. Press f9 once. It will show load bios defaults with a yes or no popup. Press enter. Popup screen will disappear.  Press f10 once. It will show save changes popup with yes or no. Press enter. Computer will restart and it will load into windows.    It might also be the issue with battery, charger or power outlet.   Try to use the charger in a different room on a different power outlet.  Try to bypass the surge protector and connect it directly to power outlet.    Try to use an alternative charger if possible.    Try to turn on the computer without the charger and check it  ( as long as the battery is not drained out )
Try windows x go to device manager expand Batteryright click on all the items below battery – uninstall Restart the computer  It should work fine..

Hi I have a p317-54-70r5, I had actually sent this in to support for this issue, they returned it sayng the battery was not fully plugged in. Come to this morning, it was doing it again. I tried holding the power button for over a minute multiple times. Finaly I just decided to look myself sice my warranty is up. I open up the case removing all the screws carefully using a flat head screwdriver to pop up the case carefully. Got inside no obvious  anything disonnected or loose, but still no dice. Finally I decided to disconnect the battery since no battery reset to be found. I plugged back in power, opened case pressed power button wahla woks. Powered off, plugged back in battery connector wahla works just fine on AC or battery now.

WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY RESET PINHOLE!!! It would have saved me 4 hours (the fix only took 20 mins to open, fix and close) and a fight with my wife about my time, thanks earnestly Acer. Maybe reconsider getting a "REAL" power button too, so we dont have to question whether it is a defective keyboard as part of troubleshooting.

Hey William I was having this issue with my acer helios laptop and unplugged the battery and it seems to be working great now. I plugged the battery back in and the problem started back up again. My question is do I need to wait for the battery to fully drain? Maybe a week or so and test plugging it in or should I just order a new battery? Thanks for your help!

If under warranty, visit the service center. If not, try what @William_mk2 posted above in the thread.
