I have a brand new Aspire A515-45, Ryzen 7 5700, 16 GB RAM. I almost always run it on AC power at my desk. Not infrequently when I'm doing something that's CPU (GPU?) intensive -- for example editing photos in darktable -- the laptop will beep. Following up in the event log, there will be a pair of events where it switched to battery and then back immediately to AC.

Is this expected / normal? I've not run into it on any previous laptops but I've read a bit where others have encountered it on many laptops.

Thanks.

Normal. Under heavy CPU/GPU power demand, the battery sometimes has to complement the charger's power output. At those times, the battery isn't charging. When battery level drops below about 50%, charging the battery takes precedent over CPU/GPU power demands and you might notice throttling behavior. Keeping the battery near 100% charged and plugged in before starting heavy power loads is thus recommended for maximum load time.

Thanks for the confirmation. The laptop stays plugged in so it's always charged.
