Why would my SPIN5 freeze when the lid is left open? - SPIN5 SP513-52N-552K

This began about a year ago.  I have SPIN5 SP513-52N-552K.

I've reset power plans to default as well as tried to customize them.

If I "short push" the power button (not a forced power down) before closing the lid or leaving the machine, all is well when I resume use by opening the lid and/or tapping on the touchpad.  Things are as they were when I left it.

However, if I leave the machine with the lid open and allow it to to take action on its own I'll have to do a forced power down by holding the power switch and then start anew.

Not a huge deal except every now and again the machine gets fairly hot as though the CPU has been left running without much if any fan cooling when it took its automatic actions.  THAT bothers me.

Again, I've tried multiple "base power plans" and have reset them to defaults as well as customized them.  I'm currently using "balanced" set to default.

Try it with Windows in safe mode. If it doesn't happen there we are likely looking at a third party app or driver that isn't playing well with sleep modes. If the issue is bad enough to lock the buss then it can leave the fan in a poor state, either running too fast ro too slow, and too slow doesn't give you higher temperatures than should be seen in an idle system.
