I have a Swift 3 SF314-511 bought in January 2022. According to Windows 11 System Information it has a BIOS labelled Insyde Corp. V1.09, 3/9/2021

Acer have a BIOS update executable V1.11 dated 4/11/2021 while Windows Update is offering an update labelled Insyde Software Firmware version 5.42.1.11

Do these updates do the same thing, or should both be applied ?

Do NOT update firmware from "Windows Updates" ONLY update BIOS from Acer Drivers & Manuals" section that is for your Swift 3 SF314-511, yes that sort of a firmware updates is also available for my Nitro 5 AN515-56 and I'm using Win-11 but, I haven't updated to it and Win-11 works perfectly without any problems, as these firmware updates are known to brick systems and not be compatible, so I suggest that you let Acer update all the BIOS versions for your laptop as they know what  is best for your Swift 3 SF314-511.

The issues we typically see when Windows Updates does a BIOS update for you is they get the default settings all mucked up. After they do that update you have to go into the BIOS menu and reset to defaults or else you will likely have weird issues.
