New Acer KA242Y monitor will not connect to hp laptop using docking station

I just received a new hp laptop, acer monitor, and j5create docking station for my at home work set up and when putting all of these together with an hdmi cord connecting the acer monitor to the docking station nothing happens and the monitor says no signal. But when I connect the hdmi cord from the monitor directly into the laptop the two connect and seem to work properly besides the volume, volume does not work when connected this way. I would really like to use the usb c docking station I was provided but for the life of me can not figure out what the problem is. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you

I am suspecting that issue might be with the cable which is connected between monitor and laptop.    Please try to use an alternative cable and check.  

Try to use this monitor with a different computer and check  whether it is working fine.  Try to use an alternative monitor with the j5create docking station  and check to isolate the issue.
