Around 2 weeks ago I updated the Bios to 1.24 on my Acer Aspire A515-56.  Today I was having issues with the battery charging.  The charging light was turning off when I turned on the machine.  It would stay orange (charging, while the machine was turned off). But once I turned on the machine it would go off.  I called Acer tech support and they pretty much told me to get lost.  Once I updated the Bios that I downloaded from THEIR WEBSITE, apparently this voids the warranty if something goes wrong with the file THEY PROVIDED. Got this machine in December of 2021.  For me this is an absolute DISGRACE on the part of Acer. The tech on the phone was smug, and totally unsympathetic.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Acer Aspire A515-56 laptop. the first thing that you should know is that BIOS updates are not to be done and/or flashed if your laptop is operational and functioning as it should and/or you are not having the problems that the new BIOS flash intends to upgrade on your A515-56 laptop as Acer warns you "Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with cautione.g. the version 1.24 BIOS upgrades only fixes issues with the following on your A515-56 laptop :

    1. Support new Micron on board ram,
    2. Update brightness table,
    3. Add new battery support

What I suggest is that you read the A515-56 manual as you can reset the battery on your A515-56 back panel as and probably the BIOS uppdate # 3. Add new battery support that has nothing to do with your OEM battery as that could have caused an issue with your OEM battery that needs resetting and below is the guide to do that. If that dosent fix things "don't open your laptop" and send your laptop to Acer Service and explain to them the problem as and if its an Acer BIOS error issue it will be fixed under warranty. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thank you for the reply. Maybe the person I spoke to on the phone should have been more helpful instead of brushing me off.  You wrote that "Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution".  Well since my Bios is now 1.24, that tells me that I did update it correctly. Had I bricked my machine because of "incorrectly" upgrading, that's one thing. But the machine booted and functioned properly up until this issue with charging.  When this happened, I did the battery pin hole reset and loaded the default values in the Bios, but that didn't help. Ironically shortly afterwards the problem seems to have disappeared. But I am worried that it will happen again. I will monitor this over the next several days and will report any problems.  Thanks
