Aspire V5 acting erratically after re-install of Windows 10

My Aspire V5 122p-0408 needed to be reset to factory settings and in so doing reverted to Windows 8. I ran the Windows Media Creation tool and re-installed Windows 10. The machine is now behaving haltingly with minimal cursor control. The machine also has a touch screen but even that seems to respond reluctantly. At first I thought there was an issue with the wireless mouse that I'd connected but, when disconnected, the touch pad behaves in a similar erratic manner. I don't see how this could be a hardware issue when everything functioned as one would expect until I re-installed Windows 10.

I posted a query about this on the Microsoft community forum and was advised to go to Acer Support and download and install a full set of device drivers for our PC. On the support page for this laptop there is only one driver listed (VGA driver) plus the message "Before installing the Touchpad driver, please install the Serial I/0 driver first." What Touchpad driver and where do I find the Serial I/0 driver?

Check for drivers for Windows 8.1 64bit, not Windows 10. They only needed to update the one driver for W10, so don't relist all the original drivers. Also, look at the original software load. Was there a "free" antivirus package included? If so it has likely expired and expired AVs are often real resource hogs. Just uninstall it. I'd start with the AV uninstall before doing driver updates, then do all Windows updates including optional ones, then use Device Manager to see if there are any drivers that are acting up.
