Aspire 715-75G camera clarity

Product is sold with HD camera. However, camera clarity is VGA. Quite disappointed as camera is a key component. Spoke to Acer customer care. They sent technician who replaced the camera. Still VGA quality and not HD.

Should be 1440p max. Open Camera app. Choose settings icon in upper right hand corner. What resolutions are available besides 480p?

Hi @RobinJC,

The camera captures 1.3 megapixel still images, which is the equivalent of a lower end personal digital camera. While displaying or recording video files, the webcam can operate at a maximum screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 or lower.

Followed the steps.

Photo 0.9 MP 16:9 1280*720
Video 720p 16:9 30 fps

Flicker res 60Hz

These are max settings. Clarity is like VGA cam.

How can you tell it's like VGA? What are you comparing it to?

The view is picture is distorted. 0.9MP photo clarity is not HD.

Hi Jack. That is the settings from the camera app shared earlier.


Photo 0.9 MP 16:9 1280*720

Video 720p 16:9 30 fps

Flicker res 60Hz

Yes,  1280x720p = 921,600 pixels = 0.921600 megapixels. This is a HD or high definition camera

Not a VGA camera which is only 640 x 480p = 0.307200 megapixels

Not FHD full HD camera which is  1920 x 1080p = 2.073600 megapixels

So we know the settings that you're talking about. But we actually can't see the HD camera photo/picture files and what other VGA camera photo/picture files that you're comparing them to say that the .9 mgapixel HD pictures have the same clarity as the 0.3 megapixel VGA pictures.

You can talk about picture clarity, distortion, fuzziness, etc all you want. But we actually can't see the pictures that you're talking about.  Please post the picture or photo so we can also see what you're looking at and talking about.

The old saying --- a picture is worth a thousand words --- is what's needed here

Product on the *website is sold as Full HD*. 

But Camera in the *laptop is NOT providing Full HD feature*.

Check specs for Acer Aspire 7 715-75G. Screenshot attached below.

I raised complaint immediately. Technician also replaced camera. Still no use. 

Maybe not hardware issue. Need help and guidance to fix the software to add Full HD setting in the app.

Sorry, no. The LCD screen display is FHD 1920x1080p. The camera is only HD 1280x720p.

And your camera image does indeed look like HD . It is definitely better than VGA quality. And what I would expect from an HD camera.

Sad you think the photo is HD. I should have taken Dell. Acer policies are ridiculous. Thank you for indulging.

Yes, I can see it's HD just by the amount of zoom applied in on the fabric design on your right. VGA would look terrible at these zoom level. Please be aware that unless stated otherwise, most manufacturer's laptop lid webcams are HD due to space limitations.

For laptops, it is much more practical to use inexpensive USB port connected webcams that can achieve much higher resolutions than even FHD such as 4K UHD and beyond.
