Acer E575G-57-D4 Would you upgrade to another ACER?

Currently i have 2 Acer E575G-57-D4 laptops running great. One has a broken right hinge that has to be kept open with a hot glued plastic hinge. That hinge broke with less than 18 months after purchase. After a cleaning teardown on the 2nd i noticed the left hinge is broken. This laptop sits on a desk with daily use and has not been opened or closed in the 3 years i have had it. Inside , you can see where the screw had pulled right out of the cover with plastic around it. The laptops are fast and trouble free but the case hinge design is garbage. So, would you buy another Acer?

How do you think the lid hinges & plastic screw anchors were damaged if the lid hasn't been touched since you got it?

wheezie this is a common problem with older laptops and of course it doesn’t just happen with Acer laptops as it happens to all laptops! You must have opened and closed this laptop allot as this just doesn’t happen all the time and randomly to Acer laptops! Don’t forget that this is not a new laptops as its plastic structure in whatever climatic conditions you have placed this laptop in, the plastic has deteriorated for it to break, also its up to you and its your prerogative to purchase whatever laptop you want but its going to happen with other laptops too, take my word as its happened to me!

Just to be technical and if you notice the hinge at the lowercase assembly is secured with plastic pins that are a part of the lowercase assembly that have a threaded brass insert and that is where they fail and dislodge as there is a tremendous force being applied onto those pressure points every time you Open and Close the laptop. Breakages at these securing points is a very common fault with allot of new and older laptops also as their plastic securing points deteriorate and break whenever their top cases are opened and closed allot including the LED screen cord that sometimes fails because of the numerous thin wires that are inside this cablke and they brake, its part and parcel of a laptop. Its happened to me on numerous occasions with 2 different laptops and the only fix (and its not hot glue as it doesn’t work and its not permanent unless you drown the hinge screw points and drown the circuitries around the hinge in that messy hot glue that will make the laptop unopen able)

The only way to fix this problem is to replace the lowercase assembly of your laptop as there is nothing wrong with your hinges most of the time, so get a new lowercase assembly for your E5-575G, yes I know that its allot of work to swap all the components from the broken lowercase assembly to the new but that is the most suitable fix for this problem, btw the lowercase assembly and hinges for the E5-575G can be purchase from Acer and their details are as follows:

The design is flawed in the way the hinge screws are set in the bottom cover with minimal plastic holding the threaded nut that eventually pulls out. It's not an old laptop to me being purchased late 2017 NEW.and the other following a year or so later. The prior Lenovo lasted almost 8 years with no hinge problem until Win 10 came out.

Jack e, What i meant was the first laptop has been sitting on a desk with a hot glued hinge to keep it in the open position for the last 3 years. My bad trying to explain. The first laptop was purchased NEW late 2017 with the 2nd one late 2018.

Older consumer laptop designs (>10 years ago) were often heavier metal frames. These days, only ruggedized industrial-grade laptops and a few high-end gamers are equipped with metal and composite frames. Most consumer grade frames are extruded plastic and must be treated accordingly.
