Hi

Having a problem with Aspire 1 A114-31 series (Model N17Q4) Laptop.

It wouldn't allow me to perform any Windows Updates, there was just over 2Gb free on the disk. I tried an sfc / scannow which reported problems, I tried to correct this problems and each time it failed. Had some other (features shall we say) issues along the way.

I couldn't see an Acer Recovery application within the Windows OS, so I tried ALT & F10 on boot and it was taking me into the Windows Recovery, so I went back into Windows and created a Recovery USB (which took hours).

Today I've tried to perform a 'Recover from a drive' from ALT & F10 and selected 'Clean the drive fully' it starts off and gets to about 57% and then drops back to a blue screen with 'There was a problem when resetting your PC. No changes were made'.

There clearly have been changes as the Laptop won't boot now and when I check the BIOS, there's no disk present to boot from so it looks like it's trashed the MBR and I'm not stuck with a USB Recovery Drive and a brick.

Any suggestions on how to bring this back from the dead ?

Thanks in advance.

To add to the above, it looks like it hasn't trashed what was already there, as I can run DISKPART from the Recovery USB and I have the following:

Volume 0     V     Acer            NTFS     Partition     28GB     Healthy     Pagefile
Volume 1     T     Recovery     NTFS     Partition     1024MB  Healthy
    Volume 2     S     ESP              FAT32    Partition     100MB    Healthy     Hidden
    Volume 3     D     RECOVERY   FAT32     Partition     28GB     Healthy

So it would appear that it's only the MBR record that is no longer visible.

    Hi egydiocoelho

I was able (before I started the recovery) to boot into Windows and Safe Mode, unfortunately when it failed at 57% (on the first attempt and every attempt thereafter) which appears to have trashed the MBR as I just get a report there was no device for boot. I've since had to just bite the bullet and rebuild without the utility and activate a new copy of Windows.

    Thanks for the reply.
