Hello community,
I am looking at an advert to buy an used laptop.

What is worrying me is the fact that the owner says it doesn’t turn on at all, but the cause is the fact it has an empty battery which needs to be replaced.

I have asked him does it work plugged in, he says no. This is weird since I think that laptops are supposed to be able to work without battery if they are plugged only.

The fact is that the owner says that Acer told him that the dead battery is the only reason why laptop wont start and that this model can’t work only by being plugged, without battery.

Thanks

@MKHR dead battery sometime causes a short and make the laptop not booting even with a charger. The only way to know if the laptop works or not is unplugging the old battery or get a new one.

But it should anyway work without the battery in, only plugged-in?
The owners statement that it is not working without the battery doesn't make any sense to me. But anyway wanted to ask here.

@MKHR Most of laptops should work without battery. Can't guarantee that it will fully function without powering on.

What do you mean by “powering on”?
    Thanks
