What benefit would I see with more than 4GB RAM in a Chromebook?

I am in the market for a Chromebook. This will be a second machine, like a Kindle Fire with a keyboard. I'm not imagining any kind of power use at all, just streaming, reading, word processing, surfing, and monitoring of videos and photos as I shoot them. But that's not to say that I couldn't discover that I like using it for other things too.

Almost all of the Chromebooks on Amazon have 4GB RAM, but some have as much as 16GB.

Comparing my options on Amazon, I think my priorities are (in order):

  • Touchscreen
  • Price
  • Reviews (reliability)
  • Larger screen (14" is good, 15.6" is better)
  • Camera quality
  • Processing speed and power

Am I likely to actually experience significantly better performance with more RAM?

There is a golden rule..   If you use more ram on your computer then the computer will work more faster.    It will not freeze or lag if you try to use bigger applications.   Sometimes when you play games minumum requirements for you to play the game will be 8 gb or 16 gb.

Since you are using the computer for basic purpose getting 4 gb ram is more than enough.    However I recommend you to get a 8 gb ram if possible.

Yeah, it really comes down to your usage... If you tend to run the browser with forty tabs open you will want more memory. If you are running an app that's graphics intensive you will want more memory. If you are just doing normal usage then 4GB will be plenty. Otherwise your list is a good start toward pinning the model down.
