I bought three Acer Aspire 5 - A515-43  laptops in the summer 2020. I had one laptop have charging issues while it was still under warranty and sent it away and it got repaired. Now that my warranty is expired (laptops are 18 months old now) I have 2 laptops not charging anymore. When I plug the charge cord they charge for about 20 seconds then stop charging and go to battery power. If I disconnect the battery internally and plug the laptop in it works fine. If I swap the a good battery the behavior doesn't change. So it seems there is an issue with the charging mechanism on these laptops. Any ideas where I can get the charging chip or new motherboards for these laptops or what I should try next?

Thanks

Check the charger as chargers have a safety switch to protect the laptop if anything is wrong internally with power or charging, check if the adaptor/charger is working 100% and there is no problem with that? Otherwise it could be a DC-IN side plug or plug/cable to the mopbo problem, check that, if all that is working then you have to get an experienced tech to diagnose all the charging/power circuitries of your mobo and change appropriate components to make it work. Note; you need specialist tools and parts to diagnose and fix these problems as you can’t do anything.

This is where the DC-IN cable connects on the AN515-43, so check this cable and where its plug connects to the mobo.

No matter what I tried, it never did repair the issue. I bought new replacement laptops instead :( I just disconnected the battery and use the laptop while only plugged in as a family device in the living room.

    Hi @BigAl111,

    # Try to update the battery driver

    1. Hold windows key and hit letter X.
    2. Choose the device manager option.
    3. Go with the option battery.
    4. Under the title battery.
Update Battery Drivers in Windows EASILY - Driver Easy
    5. Right click on that option ----> Update all driver under the title battery.
    6. Choose "search automatically".

Check this T/S and post the result.
