Is there a setting that i can make to make it change automatically when connect?

On the start bar, does it let you select the headphones as the output device? In sound settings you should be able to set it as the default device, and then it will swap over when available if the headset supports it

If you right click the volume icon and head to sounds, do the Bluetooth headphones appear in the pop up as an output device? If they don't it suggests there may be a driver needed for them

If they do you should be able to right click and set the amount to route via them,  you could try temporarily disabling the inbuilt speakers in the sounds menu to see if it swaps to the Bluetooth output
