Cannot update Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57 to Windows 11 - Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver issue

Hi,

I have this model computer: Acer Nitro AN515-57

Cannot update to Windows 11 via Windows Update due to this safeguard:

Have checked Device Manager and appear to have Intel SST driver version 10.29.0.5152 for Bluetooth Audio and USB Audio

The above link says "This issue is resolved by updating the Intel® Smart Sound Technology drivers to a version 10.30.00.5714 and later or 10.29.00.5714 and later. Important: Later versions refer to just the last part of the version number. For addressing this issue, 10.30.x versions are not newer than 10.29.x versions."

The issue I am having is actually locating the Intel SST 10.29.00.5714 driver - does anyone know where this can be downloaded or can you please assist Acer?

The Intel website only mentions version 10.29.0.4842 and when I download this driver and point to it in Device Manager, I am told that I already have the best version of the driver installed.

Hi,
You could try joining Windows Insider program and update to Windows 11, I would suggest you backup your system using Macrium reflect because in case if anything goes wrong you can revert to your original OS without losing any of your important data, Macrium reflect is a reliable backup software and I would recommend familiarising with the program using the links below, I also don't see any Intel SST drivers for your system in Acer support site, HTH.

I have the same problem.
Have you tried to remove the current driver and reinstall the version 10.29.0.4842 ?

This does not contain any drivers for acer though right? there's only Lenovo, Quanta and a few others.

If there is no Acer specific driver on Microsoft Update Catalog, then 2 options:

1) wait for Acer to publish an update driver for your computer.

2) scour acer's support website and look for a slightly newer acer laptop model (i.e. the OP has a Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57), so search for AN516, AN517, AN518... and see if there is a newer Intel SST driver. It should contain the hardware id on your older acer laptop as well so it should install (at least the Intel SST driver).

Parts of the audio driver may not install because a 2017 laptop model may have DTS app, a 2018 model may have Dolby and a 2019 model may have Waves. So the Waves portion of the 2019 model will not install on a 2017 model (because you didn't pay for it).

But in terms of Realtek and Intel SST audio portion of the driver, they should install on older laptop model on the same "product line".

Look at this guide “How to fix Windows 11 BSOD caused by Intel Smart Sound Technology” as this will fix your SST driver problem, I’ve used this same method and it worked.

You missed the whole point of this thread --- they couldn't find updated drivers from acer's support website.

I cannot tell you whether those MUC cab files are restricted to Lenovo and Quanta.

But you can try to update them by using the device manager, this method doesn't force install anything so it is safe:

1) download the cab file
2) copy/paste the individual files into brand new empty folder
3) use device manager update function to point to the folder you created in #2
4) if the driver is not suitable for acer computers then device manager will just say that you already got the latest driver (so this is a completely safe method).
