Factory Reset Interrupted and Now won’t turn On Spin 5 SP513-51-34UA

Hello All,
So I was gifted a used ACER Spin 5 recently. I went to log on but the person that gave it to me told me to run a factory reset using the Alt + F10. During the factory reset I (stupidly) shut my laptop and went to bed not thinking clearly. This morning I try to get on my laptop and the screen is blank. None of the other hacks I’ve googled work and I’m at a loss. I tried contacting ACER chat support but they want to charge me $80 just to speak with them. I’ve tried F2, F9,F10 and nothing seems to happen. I’m not very good with laptops and never got the chance to explore this one that I was just gifted so I really don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve had a Mac all my life so I am kind of lost on the PC lingo. Thank you in advanced for the help!

It would help to know which Spin 5 model you have, there have been literally hundreds of them what with different configurations and different locales. The full model number should be in the same sticker as the SN and SNID, something like SP5xx-xxx-xxxx. Try this, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds or so to verify it's really turned off and not just stuck in some sleep state. Release the button and wait a bit then try turning it on normally. Then try entering the BIOS by holding the F2 key down while you turn on. If you wander around the BIOS screen for a long enough time we can assume the hardware is all working and it's only the OS that's corrupt.

My advice and the best thing to start fresh with a used PC is to do a “Clean Install” of Win-10 on your SP513-51 of the OEM Win-10 Home 64bit of this laptop. Go to the Microsoft site “Create Windows 10 installation media” and click on Download tool now and install the Win-10 installation files on an 8GB USB but, you have to do this installation USB on a GUID/GPT format laptop and form that is the same format as your SP513-51 laptop boot drive, otherwise this USB won’t boot on your SP513-51 and you can’t use it as MBR/Legacy format is not the default format and is not recommended.

If you can’t get into the bios? You need to disassemble the laptop and take the battery out (disconnect and reconnect battery after at about 5 min) but and after disconnecting the battery press the "Power Button" (right laptop side) for 10-15 seconds todischarge all pwer from the laptop. After reconnecting and setting the bios to D2D Recovery >Enabled do a “D2D Recovery” on your SP513-51 which is the Acer Disk to Disk (D2D) recovery function which allows you to use the recovery partition to troubleshoot your computer.

1. Restart the computer.

2. During POST, press F2 to access the BIOS Setup screen.

3. Select the Main menu.

4. Select the D2D Recovery field and make sure it is set to Enabled.

5. Press F10 to save settings and close the BIOS Setup screen.

6. During POST, press Alt+F10 to enter the system recovery partition. This will display the eRecovery Management window.

7. Follow the onscreen instructions to return your computer to factory condition

Hi. I tried the second suggestion and the screen just went black. I will try the first suggestion but I am a bit worried about it as I read a few other posts explaining this method and it seems that I would need a license key to successfully do this (which I don't have). Is this true? The license key for your system is embedded in the BIOS. As long as you aren't trying to change editions at the same time as the install (such as from Home to Pro) you shouldn't have any issues. Do be aware that you will likely have to manually install some drivers and none of the Acer utilities will be there if you do a clean Windows install, but an Acer reinstall should keep those all.
