al2416w display with Windows 11 laptop? driver issue/ or?

My wife has an old al2416w monitor she has been using with a Windows laptop. She finally got a new lap with Windows 11.
The laptop sees the display, and knows it's a AL2416W and the resolution is 1920X1200. But the refresh rate is shown as 59.95 Hz rather than 60Hz. The screen does not light up at all, though the indicator on the monitor goes to green.
Selecting 60Hz instead (the only other option, and normally the only option) lights up about 80% of the screen (multi-color snow) with the right-hand 20% dark.
What the monitor indicates it's seeing in either case is 2417X1202 @ 59.9Hz.
Meanwhile, the old monitor works fine with the old laptop. And my newer R240HY monitor works fine with either laptop.
Since the newest driver available for the AL2416W is for XP, could that be it?

Not really, the drivers were only used when the system didn't support the PnP (Plug and Play) protocols. Are you using VGA, DVI, HDMI?

HDMI (via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.) Feeding R240HY through same adapter is fine.
