Both fans for Helios 300 PH315-51-79G0 not working

Today I had pulled apart my Helios 300 because I realised the cpu fan wasn’t spinning. I pulled the laptop apart fine with no problems at all and while I was at it, I had redone the thermal paste. I blew both fans with compressed air and made sure they were both clean with no dust or extra bits in there. I put the computer back together with no hassle and started it up. Everything was working fine until I opened predator sense and both fans weren’t spinning. I thought that the program was glitched so I restarted my laptop but it still said 0 for both fans. I had pulled it apart again and started it up with the bottom off and when the fans start to spin, they stop and start and stop and start repeatedly. I have disconnected and reconnected the fan power and the battery power but still no fix. Anyone have any suggestions?

    I ended up buying new fans. I replaced them with the old ones and started up the laptop to hear the fans spinning. I checked predator sense and both are running at 6122 rpm. Also, Thank you for helping.

    @JBuzzy try to put the fan on maximum speed. If you have replaced the thermal paste, both CPU and GPU get better temps, and the fans won't start until they reach desired temperature.

    I had put the fans on the maximum speed and they still do the same thing. Even though the cpu and gpu get really hot, they still don’t spin. I thought if I’d let them sit there, they’d spin after time but the cpu got so hot (99 degrees) that my laptop automatically shut down.

    @JBuzzy did you check the fan connectors? Make sure that they are plugged in correctly and the cables are not pinched.

    I’ve made sure the fan connectors are plugged in correctly and made sure they weren’t pinched but they still do the same thing. I’ve attached a photo in so that you could look for yourself but I’m pretty sure nothing is wrong. I don’t know if the photo will help.

    @JBuzzy I see that those screws for holding the fan shell are missing. Also is there any small switch above the RAM slot?

    I had sent my laptop to predator themselves back in December 2020 and this is the first time I’ve opened it. I had realised that two screws were missing from the shell so I assumed they forgot to put them back in. I can’t see a switch above the RAM slot. Could you provide a photo of what I’m supposed to look for?
  • What is the exact model? example ph315-52-58vh. Did you disconnect the lithium battery before pasting a new thermal paste?

    The model is PH315-51-79G0. I did disconnect the lithium battery before putting the new thermal paste on.

    @JBuzzy did you try to take both of the fan blades out and clean them like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTuNyfflFSo

    I’ve just cleaned the fans with an old brush but nothing came out of the fans. I put the fans back into place and tried to start up my laptop but now it won’t turn on. The light on the side that turns blue now keeps flashing on and then a couple seconds later off. The hard drive makes a beep when I press the power button. I don’t know what’s wrong with this thing but I’ve had it since 2018 December and this has never happened. I want to send it off to a repair guy but I don’t want to waste the money on an easy fix.

    @JBuzzy then try to do the power reset by disconnecting charger, battery. Press and hold the power button for 20 secs and the tap it a few times. Reconnect the battery and power adaptor.

    I did this but it still does the same thing. I don’t know if I’m doing it correctly but I followed your steps.
  • Can you test fans with a multimeter?

    @egydiocoelho

    I switched the multimeter to 20 volts and I pressed the prongs on the fan connectors but there is no read but when I press the power button with the prongs still touching the connectors, the reading goes up to 6.17 and then instantly drops. Seeing that the computer goes on and off a couple of times, the reader goes from 0.00 to 6.17 for a second then drops back to 0.00 and repeats itself until it turns off. I turned the volts to 200 and I put the prongs up against the power connectors and gave me a reading of 22.7 without pressing the power button.

    @JBuzzy does it start without the battery plugged in?

    @AnhEZ28

    I tried a power reset one more time and the laptop is now working but both fans are still not spinning properly. No it doesn’t start with the battery plugged in.

    @JBuzzy oh! That's wonderful. Since you have a multimeter that you mentioned earlier, maybe you can try it to test the fan power. Put the fan on max speed. Check with power from the connectors with the fans plug in and test without both fans plugged in. You should get around 5V

    I’ve put the fans on max speed and tested the fan power. You said around 5V but I’m getting 6.95V. Is that normal?

    @JBuzzy yes that is normal. Since that connector still provides power, replacing the fan might be the possible solution. If new fans do not work, the problem lies on the motherboard and will be difficult to fix.

    Okay. When you say to replace the fans, do you mean the fan blades that come off when cleaning it or the whole fan itself?
