Upgrade SSD or RAM for Acer Aspire 3 A315-34

I have Acer Aspire 3 A315-34 laptop with 4gb RAM & 500gb HDD. The speed is very slow, it takes long to start up and basic applications navigation is very slow. I plan to upgrade with 8gb RAM, but someone from acer service center suggested to go with SSD upgrade. I am confused now. Whether I should go with RAM upgrade or SSD upgrade? The cost of upgrade is nearly same, apprx 4k INR, for 8 gb RAM or 128gb SSD.

Definitely go for a SSD first if you are using traditional spinning HDD. A 2.5" SATA3 SSD is like three times faster than traditional HDD. The HDD is the bottle neck of your laptop.

The memory upgrade is secondary ( as you have not complained about memory close to 100% usage).  Adding another 4 GB RAM of the same speed of the original RAM will enable the dual channel performance, thus increasing the speed. Since it is not the bottle neck, adding the 4GB RAM will help performance a little but not much. Adding 4GB RAM is rather cheap nowadays. I did that for less than USD $16 with my Acer laptop.

If I were you, I'll go for upgrades for both.

Some Aspire 3 A315-34 models even have M.2 slot for NVMe SSD such as this link:

It will be even better to use NVMe SSD ( it is even at least 3 times faster than 2.5" SATA3 SSD) instead of 2.5" SATA3 SSD.

How about take a close up photo of the M.2 slot connector and attach it here? I am interested to see if it is a "M" key or other types so as to determine if you can use M.2 NVMe SSD or just M.2 SATA SSD.

    Hi @NiteshRS,

I suggest you to upgrade the RAM because it will boost the speed of the unit.
