Aspire Desktop (TC-865: A90EGQM)) 100% disk & slow for 1/2 hour after starting

Hi my desktop is extremely slow for about a 1/2 hour after I start it up. I have tried deleting all temporary files. Sometimes this works for a day or two, but in the end, I'm always sitting around waiting for programs to start and to work. I notice that the task manager processes reads 100% disk. Once it starts to read less than 100% it acts like a real computer. This problem has been going on for about 6 months. More device info: Processor Intel R Core TM i3-8100 CPU @ 3.60 GHZ Installed Ram- 12 GB System type 64 bit. Windows 10 Home OS build 19041.1052 Thanks for any ideas

Here are some of the steps to speed up your computer.

Try windows + r - on the run window - type msconfig - click ok
click on services
check - hide all microsoft services
click on disable all
click on startup
disable all the startup items
click on apply - ok - restart the computer. Loading process will be very fast now..

Note: You can always enable the services and startup items later or set it to normal startup from selective startup later on the General tab

Please check how it is working now..

Try windows + r - on the run window - type appwiz.cpl - click ok
it will show you the list of programs
remove all the unwanted third party programs.
Please don’t remove any drivers.
If you are not sure , please don’t remove it.

Try windows + r - on the run window type temp - click ok - it will show you the bunch of files - try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files

Try windows + r - on the run window type %temp% - click ok - It will show you the bunch of files - try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files

If you are not able to remove some files - click on skip and then click click on continue..

Try windows + r - on the run window - type cleanmgr - click ok
click on all the boxes except recycle bin and thumnail
Delete the items which are checked

Try windows x - on the menu - chose command prompt admin or power shell admin
click on yes
on the blue or black window type sfc /scannow
It will be running till 100 %

Try to do a chrome reset
open chrome
click on three dots on top right corner
click on settings
Scroll down - go to advanced
click on restore setting to default
you will see reset settings - cancel
click on reset settings
Open chrome
it will work faster now

If it is still not working then we have to do a refresh and reset

click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started

or

on start - type here to search - type reset this pc - click on reset this pc on the top - click on get started

It will show you keep my files and remove everything
chose keep my files
chose the account - type the password - click on local reinstall - click on reset
It will be in progress..
login to computer and start using the computer.
If it is still not working

click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started
chose remove everything
click on local reinstall - just remove my files - click on reset

It will be in progress

Note:

If you do refresh ( keep my files ) - all your personal files like pictures, music , documents , videos will still be intact. Only the applications will be lost

If you do reset ( remove everything ) - you are doing a factory default. It will become like a day one computer. It will wipe out everything and take your computer to day one like a new computer.

You can also do the recovery in an alternative way..

There are two alt keys on the keyboard. If you look at the bottom row of keyboard you can see the one on the left side of space bar and the other on the right side of space bar. The alt key on the right side will be looking like alt, alt gr or alt car. Turn off the computer. Hold the alt key on the left and tap f10 continuously. It will go to repair mode. It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot. If it is not going to repair mode, turn off the computer. Turn on the computer. Hold the right alt key ( alt gr or alt car or alt ) and then tap f10 continuously. It will go to chose an option continue and troubleshoot..

Click on troubleshoot – reset this pc

It will show you keep my files and remove everything..

chose keep my files
chose the account - type the password - click on local reinstall - click on reset
It will be in progress..

If it is not working…

Click on troubleshoot – reset this pc

It will show you keep my files and remove everything..

chose remove everything
click on local reinstall - just remove my files - click on reset

It will be in progress

If it is not working…

Click on troubleshoot – reset this pc

Thanks William.,, So far, all I had to do was follow the directions in your first paragraph disabling all the non microsoft services. There were about 25 of these. (I had already disabled the startup items.) At any rate, my computer started very quickly and went from 100% disk to a reasonable percent within one minute. My plan is to leave all of the services disabled unless I find something doesn't work. I have tremendous gratitude for your help. (I tried to click "yes" and acer said that wasn't available. It did let me click "like") Steve

Possibly you're were backing up your system daily via (Backup and Restore).

It is often the antivirus package that came with the computer. They almost always run a scan when you first login.

Thanks Larry--- I don't back up daily, or near as often as I should, so that's not the problem.
And Thanks Billsey- This computer came with a Mcafee option which I declined and deleted. But, The Windows antimalware always shows up as a high disk user. Unfortunately, my attempts to circumvent this by installing other virus scanners thereby deactivating Windows antimalware, ended up worse than sticking with the Windows tool.

Hi Easwar: Out of 930 GB total, I still have 685 gb available.

Windows Defender, the antivirus that comes with Windows is pretty much the lowest impact package available. All other antivirus apps have to differentiate themselves by adding more functions so they do more stuff in the background. You can also use Resource Monitor to sort running apps by disk usage to see what else is sucking up the resources. Over all you will get the best performance by dropping in a SSD and using the HDD as a data drive.

If you are still using traditional, spinning HDD it will be slow for sure. How about changing it to a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. It is three times faster than spinning HDD.

Since you are using 8th generation Intel CPU, it is likely that you can use pcie 3.0 x2 M.2 NVMe SSD, which is another 2-3 times faster than 2.5" SATA3 SSD. Try to attach a close up photo of the M.2 slot connector so we can tell what you can use. I know, it is tedious to access the M.2 slot, have to remove HDD tray and the DVD drive first.
