How to connect external mic to my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-44

Hello everyone! I have a condenser microphone that I want to connect to my laptop using 3.5mm jack but the problem is that it keeps detecting it as a playback device and not a recording device when I connect it through the 3.5mm jack. Even if I use my earphone it still won't detect its microphone, it will still use the laptop's inbuilt microphone named 'Microphone array'. I just wanted to know if there is any way to connect my mic without using any external sound cards !!! (P.S : I've already tried reinstalling every audio driver including DTS ones too)

What style of mic is it? It could be a trrs / trs compatibility thing

From memory there isn't a realtek / equivalent audio console in the system tray is there? (Sometimes you can manually set it to line in throug the audio console)

Are you trying to connect it for the first time on this computer. Was it working earlier on this computer. If not then you might have to purchase a adapter. Some old models of headset come with two wires one for microphone and the other for listening to music but there will be only one port on the laptop. Some laptop will be having two ports one for microphone and the other for listening to music but the headset will be having only one wire. In both the cases you might have to purchase a adapter or splitter adapter.

New models are equipped with only one port but again it depends on the headset you are trying to use. We need to first check whether the headset is coming with one wire or two wires ( microphone and for listening to music )

Try the same headset with a different computer and check.. Try a different headphone with microphone on this computer and check to isolate the issue.

Yup there isn't any audio console, i think that's the problem. I'll just have to but a sound card then? BTW I have a basic bm-800 condenser microphone which I'm trying to connect.

Re-install your acer driver using the installer exe (often called setup.exe).

Run Microsoft Store to pull the Realtek Audio Console.

If the acer realtek driver is installed correctly, then Microsoft Store will automatically download the Realtek Audio Console.

Insert mic, the computer should prompt you "which device did you plug in?", answer mic-in.

If the computer doesn't prompt you, then run Realtek Audio Console to select "mic in".

If Realtek Audio Console doesn't have the option of "mic in", then your laptop is not compatible with standalone 3.5mm mic.

External sound card would work , or a dongle which splits out the TRRS into seperate inputs should also work (although 3.5 mic's on TRRS ports can be a tad tricky if the port doesnt support re mapping)
