I've been very happy with my Aspire A317-52 that I purchased earlier this year but i'm having trouble getting 4K 60hz HDR to work with my TCL 4K HDR TV. The TV works great with my other computer using 4K 60hz HDR so I know it has to be something on the Aspire that is not working. I've used the same TCL 4K HDMI port and every time I click enable HDR on the Laptop the TCL screen flashes but then stays in SDR. One question I have is does my Aspire A317-52 have HDMI 1.4b or 2.0?    If just 1.4b that would be the reason why the 4k 60hz HDR is not working but I would think any new laptop released this year would have at least HDMI 2.0.

Thanks for anyone that can help, love these forums..

Your Aspire A317-52 HDMI port is a v1.4b and not v2.0. The specs below are what your A317-52 has and the difference between HDMI 1.4b and 2.0.

    v1.4b
    Specs:
Enabled 3D 1080p video at 120 Hz so that each eye can receive full HD (1080p 60Hz—or 120 Hz total) per Eye

Abstract: An incremental change to allow for Full HD (1080p) viewing of 3D content.

Practical Issues and tips: Allows for 3D content to be viewed in full HD.

    v2.0
    Specs:

    • Increases bandwidth to 18Gbps
    • Resolutions up to 4K@50/60 (2160p), (4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution)
    • Up to 32 audio channels
    • Up to 1536kHz audio sample frequency
    • Simultaneous delivery of dual video streams to multiple users on the same screen
    • Simultaneous delivery of multi-stream audio to multiple users (Up to 4)
    • Support for the wide angle theatrical 21:9 video aspect ratio
    • Dynamic synchronization of video and audio streams
    • Updated CEC extensions for more expanded command and control of consumer electronics devices through a single control point
    • Support for 4:2:0 chroma subsampling
    • Support for 25 fps 3D formats
    • Backward compatible with high speed (category 2) HDMI cables

Abstract: This is a major update that increases bandwidth to 18Gbps and includes support for 4k video—including dual video to the same display to multiple users.  Audio is increased from 8 to 32 channels including simultaneous delivery of multichannel audio to a maximum of four users.  Audio sample frequency is increased to 1536kHz.

Thanks for much for the quick reply, could I ask where that data is taken from as I would love to get my hand on it to check other hardware versions/revisions in my Aspire?

    thanks

    Hi William,

The Manual does not include details such as the HDMI Version and one link you posted from quora is Incorrect as I do have a 10th Gen i5-1035g1 CPU yet the Aspire A317-52 HDMI only supports 1.4b. Seems the Acer service guide is the holly grail so I'll have to keep an eye out for one.

    thanks
