Acer Swift 3 Randomly Freezing

Hi, everyone. I started using my Acer Swift 3 on a regular basis back in September, and just a few days ago, my computer randomly froze for the first time. The cursor was also completely frozen, and I could not ctrl + alt + del or access any other part of the computer. All I could do to fix it was to shut it off manually and turn the power back on. Since then, the computer has frozen multiple times. The last two days, it only froze once and never gave me any trouble except that, but today, it has frozen 4 times in just a few hours. It even restarted randomly while I was scrolling through a webpage. The most concerning thing to me was one instance where it froze and the screen went black, then to a glitched screen, and finally to a white screen before I had to manually restart it.

I have already tried several fixes with no luck. So far, I have checked for driver updates, updated Windows, ran a system scan (it did fix corrupt files, but issue still occurred after this), ran virus scans (no viruses), and booted in safe mode. When I was in safe mode for a short while, my computer didn't freeze, but I'm not sure if I was on safe mode for long enough to tell if this might definitively be an answer to the problem. Would anyone have other suggestions to fix this problem? Thanks for any suggestions!

Take your system back to a previous build and see if that fixes these problem(s). These sorts of problems are due to driver and malware and/or and even hardware issues that conflict with your system. See this guide “How to Revert to Previous Builds in Windows 10” and see if this fixes your problem(s)? If not then I would a backup of your personal files then do a clean install of Win-10 as that will fix these problems.

Yes, as Steven suggests, it's likely an issue with an app or driver that has been installed or updated recently. If going back as he suggests isn't feasible, boot in safe mode (with networking) and use it for a long enough time to full verify it doesn't happen there. Then use msconfig.exe to disable all non-Microsoft stuff and gradually add them back in a few at a time until you run into it again.

    Hi @pluckypikomou,

The computer may be taking in too much input or there could be a malfunctioning program or application. Since you can't restart the computer on-screen, the best way to fix this is to do a hard reset by either holding down the power button until the computer totally shuts off, or by removing the battery.
