Predator Triton 500 SE 20% performance hit when using usb-c displayport vs hdmi?

I've found a consistent framerate drop when playing games using an external usbc-displayport monitor vs the same monitor via hdmi. The issue seems to be persistent even when I change the resolution to very low. When I switch to using HDMI for the external display, then I experience the framerates I expect. The framerate on the built-in display is also great. My display supports 120+ hz but via HDMI I can only output 85 FPS max, with HDMI I can see the laptop can operate at 100+ FPS in warzeone for example, but framerate is 70 when running at the same settings via DP.

Has anyone seen this? I tried a few things such as disable HDR, game mode, hardware switching, but nothing has resolved the issue.

I have a Predator Triton 500 (PT515-51) and i have the very same problem.
My graphic performance is really bad over the usc c port (with dock). However, if i use only one monitor on the usb c dock the performance is back to normal, as soon as i use a second monitor, it drops badly.
Could not find the problem yet, did you have any luck?

Check the nvidia control panel, it could be that the Thunderbolt port is connected to the intel GPU
