reset pattern unlock on Iconia Tab 500

The Tablet (500) has been locked due to too many unlock attempts by my nephew.    I have tried to unlock it using the gmail account information but I normally have wifi off by default.  I have read that I need an active internet connection for this option to work.  How can I turn on the wifi and get connected to the internet to do this?

 

Is it possible to use the USB cable attached to a laptop that has internet connectivity to reset with the gmail account information?  If that is not possible, is it possible to access the internal memory to offload photos prior to a factory reset if that becomes required....

If you have enabled auto upload to google plus, you can get your pictures from there.

Otherwise, see previously answered threads about how to unlock the password deadlocked tablet.
