SWIFT SF314-42 Fingerprint Device Problem

Hello everyone,

I want to ask for help regarding this fingerprint sensor problem I have in the past few days. It used to be fine, I bought it in August 2021. After some windows update and migration to windows 11, the fingerprint still works for sign-in. But just recently for the past three-four days, I think also because of some windows update, the device suddenly does not let me sign in with the fingerprint. It has this yellow warning sign on the device manager.

I also tried to update the driver but it doesn't seem to fix it. I haven't tried uninstalling driver and reinstalling because I fear of meddling in something I don't know, and I haven't tried anything else as well. I only tried updating the windows to the latest, but no fix from it too. Below the screenshot for the device properties and the status from sign-in options.

What is this Code 31 & device timeout, and how to fix this? And it also says the fingerprint scanner is not compatible with Windows Hello.

I am really grateful to anybody who can help in assisting to provide the possible fix for this.

Thank you.

This is usually caused by an issue with the underlying chipset drivers that provide a USB connection between system components. Things like the fingerprint reader, the touchpad, a touch screen, etc. look to the rest of the system as if they were on a USB port. Some of the updates MS has released over the last year or two sometimes leave you with the data connection getting garbled through that internal USB port. Since the data is garbled the system can't understand what the device is saying and you get errors like the 31 you see. Typically they clean up themselves after a while, though sometimes it waits until the next Windows Update to fix itself.

    William,

I have tried your first solution, uninstalling and restart, then the fingerprint works again. Thank you very much for the advice.
