Hi Folks

I have an Acer 5 Aspire laptop, the problem i have is that i,m getting a device descriptor failed error 43 which i can't seem to fix. I have to disable the root hub driver all the time
which disables my usb ports.

I have done everything i can and now i'm not sure if its hardware failure or windows 11.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you see this message when no external devices are plugged into any of the ports except the charger jack, including a mouse dongle? If yes, please post a screenshot of Device Manager if possible.

Probably Win11. Check to see if your model is on this ACER Win11 compatibility list yet. If not on the list, I suggest that you wait  either for a Windows or ACER driver update to resolve the issue. If your model is on the list, then open Device Manager. Click USB controllers folder. Right click and uninstall its device driver. Exit Device Manager without re-installing anything. Shut down Windows normally. Turn it back on and let Windows automatically re-detect the hardware and auto re-install a fresh copy of the driver.

Okay I did that and and the device descriptor error has gone but the problem I have now is that the device flashes up and down with the error sound so I have had to disable the root hub again.

    (1) Is your A5 model on the list?
    (2) If yes, could you reveal what model you have because there are dozens of A5 series models?
    (3)   Could you also specifiy what device flashes up and down?
    (4) What error sounds are you hearing? A beep? A series of coded beeps? Perhaps a Windows speaker tone?

Run check Windows Update again in Settings. Also please post a screenshot of the Windows Update settings screen if possible.

The problem starts again, uninstall, reinstall, disable is the only thing that stops it but rends my usb ports useless.
  • Try resetting the battery:
If the issue continues to occur, go to the bios, press f9 to restore it and then f10 to save and exit.

If @egydiocoelho 's suggestion results in the same behavior, are you saying that when you run Windows update that Device Manager immediately appears as in the screenshot that you posted? This doesn't look like the Windows update screen in settings???
