    Thank you for that.
I believe that the Audio Port is for audio out, headphones or speaker.
On my c24 the port is marked with Earphones.
There is also a popup window which gives a choice of Earphones or Speakers.

The port supports a headset as well as headphones or speakers, and a headset has a mic in included.

    Thanks Billsey
I've been in touch with Acer support  and they do not recommend using the headphone jack for inputting an external audio source.
I am attempting to find a way of connecting an external portable  cassette player, which has a 3.5mm output jack.

    Thanks  for your reply.

Yeah, the input side of the jack is mono, the output from the cassette player is likely stereo. Some headsets have two connectors, one for input and one for output and there are splitter cables that convert those to the single jack type, so a mono input should work fine. Don't plug one of the big studio mics in without looking at their specs though, some will overdrive a normal mic input. That might be where Acer support is coming from...

    Thanks again Billsey,

I may try an external usb soundcard, although a search around on youtube will often turn up some of the tracks I have  on old tapes.
