Aspire E5-573-50SN Touchpad mesh?

Hi,
I am looking to replace my touchpad, and have found there is some sort of metallic mesh attached between the keyboard backplate and the touchpad. It's not that sticky and I'm concerned that if I peel it off it won't stick back.
What is it for? My guess is it's an anti-static measure, and if that is the case, I'd rather have one than not.
What would I use to reattach it, or is there a spare available?

Close. It's faraday grounding fabric for emi & rf shielding. Once assembled, the two alignment pins will keep it aligned. Scotch tape will keep it snug on the surfaces if it curls a bit and doesn't lay back down.

Sorry @JackE, I had a bit of difficulty replying for a minute.

Does that then mean that the electrical contact does not have to be perfect on all sides of the patch?
That would ease my mind somewhat.

Correct. It's like a faraday cage that shields freespace electromagnetic radiation & radio frequency interference (emi, rfi). So direct conductor contact isn't how it works. Close contact is all that's needed. Scotch tape can do the job if you're worried. I wouldn't be though.
