Aspire E15 windows installation issue

Hi All

I hope some clever person can help.

I have aa Aspire E15 laptop that has suddenly and for no known reason stopped being able to start due to an issue while "windows installation"

When turning on the machine shows the acer logo and goes through the bios load then goes on to the OS load and shows the following message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Needless to say this then repeats when "OK" is pressed.

My initial instinct was to just reinstall windows from a USB but there is no windows licence sticker on the device so I would not be able to authenticate.

Any help gratefully received.

Most likely there is a recovery partition in the SSD/HDD came with your laptop.
You don't have to worry about the Windows license, as it is a digital license embedded in the motherboard.

Assuming that your HDD/SSD is in healthy condition. Two methods.

Resetting to the factory condition:

When boot up, during the black screen, hold down ALT+Fn keys, keep tapping the F10 key until you see the Restore menu
Troubleshoot->Reset This PC-> select whether you want to keep your existing files or remove everything

This will bring back to the factory condition, all the Windows updates through the years may needed to updates again

Fresh Install from Microsoft site download:

Prepare a USB flash drive of 8GB or 16GB capacity in Fat32 format.
Go to Microsoft web site, download the Media Creation Tool, download the latest Windows ( probably the 21H1 version of Windows 10)

When power up, make sure this downloaded Fat32 flash drive plugged in and hold down Fn key and keep tapping F12 key to reach boot menu

Select to boot from flash drive there

When being asked for the Windows product key, just select " I don't have a product key"

If possible, select to install Windows on the C: partition only of your existing HDD/SSD, hopefully this will not wipe out the existing Recovery Partition there ( not guarantee you will have such option).

Continue to install, this should bring your HDD/SSD to the latest Windows 10, maybe the existing Recovery Partition will be erased.

For both cases, you do not need to enter Windows product key. The digital license is build-in.

I always suggest people to backup their PC by Windows 10 Create System Image to another internal HDD/SSD or external HDD/SSD once in a while ( I do it once every 3-6 months or whenever I feel my PC had enough changes since last system backup). With the backup, any non-hardware issues can be resolved easily.

# Try to get the BIOS page.

1. Turn OFF the unit.

2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
3. You will be in setup utility page.
4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

Hi both, thanks for your helpful replies. I should have said in the first instance I had already tried to restore. I did the BIOS restore F2 F9 F10 already and I couldn't do Troubleshoot -> Reset this PC. as you need administrator access and there is no administrator profile.

Knowing the licence is digital and embedded (makes sense now its mentioned doh!) means I can just do a boot from USB. There is no docs on the computer I wish to keep.
