"Test pattern" when starting up and before videos

For about 3 months now, I sometimes get a short "test pattern" after signing in to my Acer Aspire. The same short "test pattern" often appears before videos on social media start playing. Laptop is only 18 months old. What do I do? Am a complete technical novice so everyday language answers would be appreciated, thanks!

What problem is this test pattern causing? Post a phone photo of what it looks like. Sounds like the video resolution is simply being changed by the system software after you sign in and the videos start playing. Not a big deal if it's not causing other issues after sign in and videos start playing.

Hi and thanks - pic attached. As you say, it is not causing a problem but just doesn't seem right and could be an indication of a more problematic future issue. I would like to fix it if possible - any ideas on how to do so? e.g. if the problem is as you state, how do I stop the system software from changing the video resolution ?

Common. All my laptops occasionally display a similar pattern, even when opening a simple application like paint. office or browser. You really don't want to prevent the software from changing resolutions or your screen won't render properly. For example, your windows login is probably 640 by 480 pixel resolution after the BIOS firmware loads. After sign-in your desktop is probably minimum 1366 by 768 pixels. Sure you can change the desktop to 640 by 480 so it doesn't switch. But it sure won't look good or render properly.

Go to this link, enter your full aspire model number (for example A515-54G) and download/install the latest VGA driver (Intel and/or nvidia) for your machine. It might help a bit.
