Good day,

I have an Acer Aspire 3 A315-41-R287 laptop and it shuts off unexpectedly.

I have already cleaned the heatsink and fan and also changed the thermal paste but the issue still persists.

I have noticed that it shuts off once the GPU reaches 60C

Can someone help me with the issue?

Is it a fan issue or a heatsink issue?

Can this issue be also caused by a faulty battery and/or CMOS battery?

Thank you

Absolutely!!! If the battery pack has an internal short, the charger can be damaged and battery overheated and/or catch fire. If the CMOS battery is dead, some of the basic input and output hardware like the keyboard, graphics and boot drive won't be initialized properly. New replacement battery packs and the lithium 2032 CMOS cells for this model are very inexpensive. Google search A315-41  & battery for vendors who ship to your location. Cost should be about $40usd. The lithium CMOS button cells should be less than $5 in department stores. Very common batteries.

Some mainboards are equipped with a spring-loaded safety interlock switch that cuts all power to the mainboard if the base cover is either loose, misaligned or removed and not putting enough pressure on the switch to keep it in the on state. Slight movements such as typing on the keyboard or using the touchpad might be enough to cut the power. Simply tightening the base cover screws might resolve the problem. If not, you might have to tape a spacer to the inside of the base cover so that it presses harder against this switch. Mainboards so equipped usually but not always have two springloaded switches, one for the safety and one for the pinhole reset switch.

Thank you for your reply, I have checked the screws and retighten them, however the issue still persist.

It's still shutting off on its own, and it happens if I run graphics heavy programs such as Vegas Pro.

I am not able to load it properly.

OK. I can see your mainboard does not have the safety switch. Only the reset switch. So it's back to the GPU. How do you know it's 60*C when it shuts off? Are you watching temperature the instant it shuts off? Which temp monitor are you using?

I am only using task manager to view the GPU temperature. The fan is spinning but not fast enough to compensate for the increase in GPU or CPU usage which makes me wonder if it's a fan issue or a if it's an issue with the board not allowing or not making the fan speed up.

The batter unit is toast so as the CMOS battery. Would that be the reason?

Why do you say this? Are you trying to run this machine  with a dead battery pack and a dead CMOS battery? The latter will cause many  of the basic input and output devices like the graphics adapter not to initialize properly!

Yes the machine is not working if not plugged in and the system time is not updated unless the machine is connected to the internet.

Do you think those 2 are the causes of this turning off?

Alright, I think so too. Thank you for your answers, I'll purchase a replacement battery and CMOS battery and see how it turns out.

I'll update this post once I have the parts.

    Thank you so much!

Thank you, I was able to change the batteries (CMOS & internal battery) and now it works okay again.
