Bios only recognizes my hard drive the first time I plug it in Aspire ZC-605

I upgraded my acer all-in-one HDD to SSD, now when I plug my SSD into the motherboard it works great and boots up the first time and also boots with a restart, but when I cold boot it, then it says "Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected device and press a key" and won't boot (and in the BIOS under Boot Options, Hard Disk Drive Priority is empty), until I change the SSD for my HDD, and then it will boot fine the first time but if I turn it off, it will give me the same message when I try to start it up again. The only way to get the computer working is to swap out the HD's and then either one will work fine and also boot up with a restart (soft boot), but when I turn it off it won't boot up again with either HD, until it's changed for the other. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Try reseat the HDD connectors. I think it may be loose. Pay attention on the data cable or use one with a clip for it.

    First, did you do a clone of your old HDD of Win-8 to your new SSD or a clean install? And also and as an advice, you can freely update from your Win-8 to win-10 using your existing Win-8 Key as and if you have Win-8.1 then you can update to Win-10 Pro as a free update  which is a better OS. Also, tell us more of what you did pre new SSD installation? Also, have you installed the new SSD 2.5" correctly into its bracket and correctly plugged the SATA data and power plugs into their slots on the ZC-605 motherboard?

    As those connectors could be lose or have come lose and not making proper contact with the motherboard plugs, also make sure that you clean the motherboard SATA data and power plugs with a circuit cleaner spray as there could be some corrosion or dirt that is restricting and causing this connection problems of the new SSD, see below of what and how you have to connect the ZC-605 drive correctly, as there is no reason why your old HDD connects and your new SSD won’t connect.

    Btw, just as an aid the spinner hard drive and SSD specs that your ZC-605 works with are;

    • Controller Integrated in the Mobile Intel HM70 Express Chipset
    • Form factor 2.5-inch 9.5 mm or 3.5-inch 7mm
    • Interface Support SATA 6.0GB/s 9.5mm/7mm 2.5"/3.5” HDD, 500GB / 1TB
    • Supported capacities 500GB, 1000GB
    Memory are;
